R.A.R. HISTORY

September 2001

Primary and revision hip forms (Type2a and Type3a) were launched, starting from the E.F.O.R.T recommendations. 2002 was mainly testing of the reporting methods and data entry.

Also, two general forms (Type0 and Type1) for the hospitals were launched, developed in co-operation with Ministry of Healh and National House of Health Ensurances

Type 0: Records data about the medium costs per type of endoprosthesis (except costs about hospitalization, drugs, cement, meaning that this costs are the exact prices of the endoprosthesis), the number of patient with segmentary spine implants and the efficiency indicators specified in the 2.9 health subprogram (the complication incidency at the patients with implants, number of patients with implants with 80% and 60% recovery etc)

Type 1: total number of purchased endoprosthesis per type, the number of operated/hospitalized fractures, tumours and patients.

January 2003

After the existing system was tested, other forms were added, so the system was modified to completely include the new forms, with all of the things related: situations, corelations, hep manual, etc.

  • The knee endoprosthesis form (primary-Type2b and revision-Type 3b) were added.
  • The forms for surgical interventions of revisioning the operated cases with deficiencies at the soft tissue level - for hip and also for knee.
  • Also, these forms were realised respecting the E.F.O.R.T requirements.

September 2003

The first major change of the whole system took place all of the forms were improved, exceding the minimal data set of E.F.O.R.T., recording more complex data for all the forms.

The first major deficiency of the EFORT minimal data set was discovered in 2002, and had to be corrected at this time. Not all the data in a form was standardised, allowing a surgeon to enter anyting in a certain field, instead of selecting that field from a database. So, a separate database with all the endoprosthesis types implanted in our country was made, with all the necessary technical descriptions. A new form for the vertebral difformities cases-scoliosis was added. The first activity report was generated from September 2001 until August 2003. The RNE website was modified again, now offering more details for the public, for the information transparency to grow: hospitals list, endoprosthetics information, more on-line statistics, useful intern and international links and an english version of the website. Also, it was created a database with orthopaedy doctors in our country, soon to be complete.

The x-ray added as a form attachment was possible on this version, at an experimental level.

September 2004

Barcodes were added to all forms. For each component the ref no. and lot no. are being recorded. All forms in use were updated (insignificant esthetic changes to include the barcodes).

New databases with cement, antibiotics were created (all models on Romanian market) - similar to the one of implants (also with barcodes).

The spine - scoliosis form has been updated. Data re-validation process was started. In the first stage have been revalidated the forms used to extract the data used for the multicentric study on revision hip implants presented at the 2005 SOROT symposium.

October 2005

A new software system has been launched based on a more complex, scalable arhitecture using Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and the Microsoft .NET Framework (the old system was based on an open source platform - PHP & MySQL & Apache).

The new system is based on a multi-lingual architecture. The whole software system can be fully translated in a matter of days by a person without specific IT knowledge.

Better forms have been presented and a final version of the spine - scoliosis form.

Extended standardization databases for Implants, Ciment, Antibiotics, etc (including barcodes) have been added.

A new online, real time, statistics engine has been launched, the statistics beeing similar to those from the scandinavian paper reports. Part of the statistics generated by this engine are available online for the public. The statistics engine is fully configurable and modular aplicable on any data set which includes the minimum data set required by EFORT. Other statistics will be added after EFORT defines the statistical range.

The new system includes an online help module. X-Rays have been added as a standard feature on all forms for all users. This module can be used for storing any file type. This documents can be attached to any of the system's entities (form, patient, hospital. doctor, implant, etc).

Modular users access + individual security certificates for all users have been added. Also there is better support for data validation.
